Part exchange is a normal part of buying a van or car at CMB, and Christopher Allen handles every valuation personally rather than through a generic online tool. The process starts with basic details: the registration, current mileage, a note on condition and whether there is any outstanding finance on the vehicle. From that, and often a UK registration lookup, Christopher can give an initial figure to put against any van or car currently in stock at 78 Victoria Road, Newbuildings.
That initial figure is confirmed, and sometimes adjusted, once the vehicle is seen in person, because photographs and a description over the phone cannot always show everything that affects value, such as tyre wear, interior condition or a dent that was not mentioned. What do you need to value my part exchange?
Send the registration, current mileage, a note on condition and whether there is any outstanding finance. Christopher will use that, often alongside a registration lookup, to give you an initial figure.
Will the part exchange figure change when you see the vehicle?
It can. The initial figure is based on what you tell us and the registration lookup, and it is confirmed or adjusted once Christopher sees the vehicle in person, because condition details are not always obvious over the phone. Any change is explained before the deal is finished.
Can I part exchange a vehicle that still has finance on it?
Yes. Tell us the outstanding settlement figure and Christopher will factor it into the deal so the finance is cleared as part of the transaction.
What if you offer me less than I think my vehicle is worth?
You are never obliged to accept a part exchange figure. If it does not work for you, you are welcome to sell privately instead and simply buy the vehicle from CMB for cash or on finance without a trade in.
Do you take vans with high mileage or damage in part exchange?
Usually, yes, though mileage and damage affect the figure offered. Send the details and Christopher will let you know whether it is worth bringing the vehicle in for a look.
Can I part exchange a car against a van, or a van against a car?
Yes, part exchange works across both, so a car can go against a van purchase and a van against a car.
Do you buy vehicles outright without me buying one from you?
CMB's part exchange service is set up for vehicles being traded against a purchase. Ring 07596 667763 to discuss an outright sale separately, as this is handled differently case by case.
Can I use my part exchange as the deposit on finance?
Yes. The part exchange figure can be put towards the deposit on a finance agreement, subject to status and affordability, for any vehicle in stock.
What documents do I bring with my part exchange?
Bring the V5C registration document, your MOT certificate if applicable, service history if you have it, and photo ID. Having these ready on the day speeds up the paperwork.
What if I don't trust a dealer's part exchange valuation?
That is a fair concern with any dealer. CMB's approach is to give an honest initial figure based on what you provide, explain any change once the vehicle is seen, and let you walk away and sell privately if the figure does not suit you. There is no pressure to accept.
Can a Republic of Ireland registered vehicle be part exchanged?
Yes, vehicles registered in the Republic of Ireland can be part exchanged. Contact Christopher to discuss the detail, as registration and documentation differ slightly from a UK registered vehicle.
How long does the part exchange take on the day?
A straightforward part exchange, once the vehicle has been seen and agreed, usually takes no longer than the rest of the paperwork for your new vehicle, typically well under an hour.
